B. Henry J. Hyde United States India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act of 2006
The 109th Congress of the United States of America, in the second session held on January 3rd 2006, begun an act to exempt this nuclear agreement for cooperation with India from certain requirements of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.
I. The Atomic Energy Act of 1954
The Atomic Energy Act of 1954 requires in Section 123 (d) for an agreement of cooperation with any nation the proposed agreement to be submitted to the Congress, approved and with determination of the President within a period of 60 days. However, the 60 days cannot begin until a Nuclear Proliferation Assessment Statement prepared by the Secretary of State has been submitted to the Congress1.
