WAIST SECURITY INFORMATION
As many of you know the West Africa Invitational Softball Tournament – WAIST,
will be happening this weekend. In light of world conditions, several people have
had questions about security surrounding this event. Below are some important
notes from the U.S. Embassy personnel running the tournament.
You will see a larger than normal presence of SAGAM guards and Gendarmes in the
vicinity of Ebbets and ISD between 1700 Friday 12 February and 1700 Monday 15
February. They’ll be there for traffic control, security screening, and generally
helping to provide a safe/secure environment for all.
Walk-Through or Hand-Held Metal Detectors will be in use at the entry points we
control for all the fields. Personnel with U.S. Embassy badges will bypass screening.
Please do not bring glass bottles or outside alcohol. Plastic water bottles are fine, but
the guards will be turning away coolers filled with any glass products or outside
alcohol.
ISD has a prohibition against dogs so please refrain from bringing your dog to ISD.
The WAIST committee is asking that you also refrain from bringing your canine
family members to Ebbets this year. There have been concerns raised about them
running loose in the food preparation area and because of the large crowds expected
we want to minimize the risk of an incident. The guards will be instructed to turn
away canines from non-embassy families.
Final Note: The party at the Marine House Saturday Night is restricted to Embassy
badge holders and Peace Corps Volunteers only.
Keep in mind that with the extra security you will need to come earlier. Josh McIntosh will
be attending a coaches meeting on Friday night. If he learns any new information he will
post if on the DA Facebook page.
