If we leave out the last sentence, we have the doctrine we have been criticizing in
pure form: when a scientist 'accepts' a theory, he does not assert that it is probable. In fact, he 'selects' it as most improbable! In the last sentence, however, am I mistaken, or do I detect an inductivist quaver? What does 'best theory' mean? Surely Popper cannot mean 'most likely'?
