Important dates and facts
Beer was evidently brewed in Bohemia in the first millenium AD. The Benedictines in the Břevnov monastery (Prague) kept records of brewing and wine making as early as 993. Home brewing, common in those times, evolved in the 13-15th centuries into a number of professional crafts. Rakovník was a market town at first, to be raised to a chartered town later. Good beer was brewed in Rakovník before 1454, the year quoted now as the beginning of local brewing.
